Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
